Aiming High – British Airways i360 targets soaring ticket sales with Oyster receipt advertising

British Airways i360, the world’s tallest moving observation tower, has achieved worldwide interest after its opening this summer and has already proven to be incredibly popular, welcoming its 100,000th visitor just over 3 weeks after opening. Visitors to the attraction, conceived and designed by Marks Barfield Architects (creators of the London Eye), glide up to 450ft in a futuristic glass viewing pod to admire panoramic views across the beautiful South Coast.

As proud partners of Brighton’s newest attraction, we are delighted to have the opportunity to help them spread the word even further. As well as printing their boarding pass style tickets, our Oyster Ticket Stop (OTS) receipt format is driving awareness of British Airways i360 with tourists and locals alike across London and the surrounding areas.

OTS receipts are a great way to do this. As an attraction that appeals to the masses, British Airways i360 needs marketing that does the same. What better way to do this than in the incredibly diverse demographic of those who use London public transport?

With 85% of London transport being paid for via Oyster card, it’s a safe bet that audiences interested in London tourist attractions will also be interested in similar ones elsewhere, British Airways i360, for example. With this format, it’s possible to target temporary Oyster users, like tourists, and young, socially active Londoners. Our research found that 61% of Oyster users are 16 to 44-year-olds, who are likely to travel. And, with 96% of Oyster travellers taking a receipt, we know that the British Airways i360 message is guaranteed to be seen.

With Oyster ticket stops reporting an increase in footfall when their receipts include advertising and 95% of Oyster travellers actively interested in actionable media and redeeming promotions that they see on receipts, this is an incredibly effective high reach format; the more you advertise, the more people you’ll attract.
